Q: What should I do if I have bad breath?
A: Bad breath (aka halitosis) can be unpleasant and due to a variety reasons – the major reason being microbial deposits on the tongue. Studies have shown that bad breath can be reduced by as much as 70% just by brushing the tongue (including the very back). Causes can also include: dry mouth, tobacco and vaping products, poor oral hygiene, gum disease, certain foods and medical conditions. You can help to prevent bad breath by practicing good oral hygiene, visiting your dentist regularly, drinking water frequently, using mouth rinses and not chewing/smoking/vaping. In some instances, a medical referral may be warranted.
